Susan,
I want to thank you for spending four great lessons with the
girls. They really enjoyed it. My oldest has been asking me to
get her more canvas; I think that inspired her to paint more.

Lessons
with Susan enabled me to take my art to the next level. It’s the
difference between hacking at painting, and learning some
technique and process so it’s fun and you can feel like you are
really painting. There are tips you get which aren’t
complicated, but you’d never get to on your own, that have made
my painting ability one hundred percent better.

Last night we went to a movie, "How to Train
Your Dragon", a really good animated film. When we got home and
were sitting around, Meave pulled out her pad and sketched the
dragons, from memory. Jim and I were totally blown away. I can't
tell you how happy it makes us to see her so engaged with her
art. It's like it's become second nature to her to want to draw.
I feel as though it's been such a great investment to have her
work with you.
You've been such an incredible teacher and guide for her- it's
been amazing to see her develop as an artist through her studies
with you. As a parent it's almost like striking gold to find
something that your child is so passionate about.

You were WONDERFUL today!! Everyone had a
fabulous time, especially Warren Buffett and Bill Gates..... they
couldn't believe they had so much fun doing something they never
thought they'd do. Warren made a point of telling David and me how
terrific you were and how patient you were, so thought you should know
you were very much appreciated.

It came in and it looks great! A real
likeness of Lucy! Her portrait looks wonderful in chalk. I like it so
much I may not give it to the kids.
I may keep it myself.

We love our commissioned painting of the
Grand Lake Theater in Oakland. Susan captured the look of the theater
and the feeling of the Art Deco era perfectly.

A painting of the local movie theater with
our first documentary's title emblazoned on the marquee, our family of
eight waiting in front of the theater, our dog, and a deceased family
member's car driving out of the scene was our request. After studying
many pictures and listening patiently long-distance, Susan completed
(on schedule) the striking 26 x 36 oil painting that hangs over our
fireplace. We love it!

Lucy and I thank you SO much for
the beautiful painting you did of our home, our beloved Burlington
bungalow! It was a rare treasure of a Christmas gift!
The special touches you made, like
my cat on the front porch, the earth flag, mailbox, and little plaque
by the front door ... and leaving out the big ugly air conditioner --
all so sweet! And the color and light brings out my memories of the
house as it was in our first weeks living there last June: bright
greens and cool dappled shadows.

We love our framed Giclée print, “
Monet’s House and Garden”. The excellent reproduction quality was true
to the original, bringing the colors to life. Selecting a mat and
frame for the print was lots of fun and very easy, using an on-line
framing site made available by the company where we bought our frame.

I just wanted to let you know that I took a moment to look at your site. Your work is absolutely fantastic. I am far from an art connoisseur (thank God for spell check here), but I definitely know what I like. I was particularly intrigued with the Emerald Bay and the Point Bonita Lighthouse paintings. It's always nice to see someone you grew up with (at least from 12 to 18) create something so good.

"I
wanted a "before & after the remodel" painting of our
house, complete with our dog Oreo in the windows of both, to present
to my partner for our 21st anniversary last year. Susan was the one I
called to expertly and whimsically capture it. While spotlighting the
improved house, Susan's watercolor also freeze-frames the past: the
house before a second floor was added and our recently departed Oreo.
This priceless rendering draws visitors to it like a magnet and has
become THE highlight of the renovation." --

"Susan's
art is wonderful. She gets the absolute essence of the things she
paints." -- Phyllis

After
25 years the National Center for Lesbian Rights has our own conference
room. That great new space is made complete with the addition of Susan Sternau's beautiful Castro Theater print. The picture reminds us of
our favorite neighborhood even as we work on behalf of LGBT folks in
neighborhoods far less welcoming. -- Kate

"There's
no other way to say it: I think Susan's art is joyful! I liked it so
much that I had her do it twice so we have keepsake art that my
friends Curtis, Vlad, Paul and I will treasure for the rest of our
lives -- our two homes, our pets and a rainbow flag. It doesn't get
better than that and I have Susan to thank!" -- Dr.
